SUCCESSFUL GRANT BID FROM 'LEADER' FOR NEW BACK ROOM

Acklington Village Hall Awarded New Leader Grant

In August this year, Acklington Village Hall Management Committee submitted an application to fund the development of the new back room to the Northumberland Coast and Lowlands Local Action Group. I am delighted to announce that following a meeting of the Northumberland Coast and Lowlands Local Action Group on 19th September 2012, the application was approved and a grant for 29,929.98 awarded. The award makes provision for the removal and disposal of the existing asbestos roof, a contribution to the building costs of the new room, provision of equipment for the new disabled toilet and the purchase of new furniture for the completed room.

This award takes the amount raised over the threshold required to start the development of the new back room. On Thursday 18th October 2012, following official confirmation of the grant award, the Management Committee began the demolition of the existing back room by clearing the room and removing the existing ceiling tiles. The asbestos roofing sheets are scheduled for removal and disposal by an approved contractor on Thursday 25th October 2012. Once the roof has been removed, the demolition of the existing brick walls will commence. We anticipate that construction of the new back room will commence early November 2012. We aim to have the new room complete and ready for use by April 2013 weather permitting.

I wish to thank the people of Acklington Parish and beyond for supporting our fund raising activities over the past few years.  This support, along with generous donations from Sir Anthony Millburn, Rev. Robert and Mrs Gina Parker and Cllr. Jeff Watson, was a major factor in the success of the Leader grant application. I also wish to thank all the members of the Acklington Village Hall Management Committee for all their hard work fund-raising to make this project a reality. Im sure the new room will be a great asset to the local community for many years to come.
