By kind permission of the Rev Robert Parker, Acklington Village Hall held another fund raising event in an endeavour to raise the much needed 35,000 for a new back room for the Village Hall.
With transport being laid on there was no problem for the 135 people attending with getting there and parking and just to pass through the grand entrance suddenly had everyone preening themselves for such an auspicious and elaborate occasion.
As can be seen from the photographs below (taken by David Hammond on his mobile 'phone) it was a very dressy, but informal, party enjoyed in the grandeur and sumptuous dining room in Doxford Hall.  The four course meal, which was thoroughly enjoyed by every one, was served quickly and almost unnoticeably by the waiters and waitresses under the constant eye of the Maitre De.
The evenings entertainment was Jason King with a very varied repertoire of songs followed by local man Fred Calvert who had people almost rolling on the floor with his quick wit and using knowledge of people present did some Mickey taking, much to the delight of all those concerned.  The 'Roll-a-Penny' for a bottle of whisky saw people queuing to have a go.  'Heads & Tails' caused a lot of laughter with the final winner being June Smailes.   Auction had a very good response.  A raffle took place with many large items gifted and sales of tickets raised a very large sum.  The new Acklington Village Hall Calendar for 2012 was also on sale and bought by many of those present raising a profit of 153.00..
All the pledged money amounted to 6,163.50.  All in all, an excellent evening.
