I am Margaret
Hammond, my husband and I moved to Acklington
village in December 2002.
When we were due to retire my husband David
arranged for me to go on a week’s residential
watercolour course for beginners. I had never
done any painting or drawing before but always
had a desire to have a go. I enjoyed the course
but soon realised, I was the only true novice.
Later I joined a group of people who met
together to paint and they were a real
inspiration. I look back on their artwork with
awe at the wonderful work they produced, many of
them selling at exhibitions that were held.
When we moved to Acklington I joined the
Warkworth Art Group who were so welcoming and we
have become great friends, having workshops and
outings to exhibitions. When the Thursday
morning Acklington Art Group was formed I joined
and it has proved very successful. We have
workshops and it is good to meet together and
generally encourage each other.
Most of my better work has been when I have been
inspired by flowers or scenes on holiday or
local views when light has captured a view in a
different way. Workshops and art classes
have enabled me to experiment with different
mediums and techniques. Art has helped me
meet a desire to paint.
Come along and join us on a Thursday morning
from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
