PCC MINUTES  - 18th January 2017

Minutes of Parochial Church Council Meeting on 18th January 2017 - at the home of Moira Peden

1. Present:  Revd Mike Dent, Moira Peden, John Davison, June Davison, Joan Davison, Audrey Lamb, Barbara Lamb, Bill Rowntree, Barbara Cock and Keith Bell

2. Welcome - by Chair Revd Mike Dent and a thank you to Moira for her continued hospitality.

3. Opening Prayers - led by Revd Mike Dent who included prayers for June’s hip operation which he hopes will bring great relief.

4. Apologies – Revd Christine Shield, Revd June Barras, Janet Bell and Joyce Aynsley

5. Minutes of the last meeting – accepted as a true copy and signed.

6. Matters arising from minutes –
• as yet there has been neither a bill nor a report from the architect.
• ‘Church Matters’ gave an idea of the sorts of projects which were successful in the ecclesiastical competition John had entered on our behalf.
• Mike had sent for, and immediately received, an explanation of how the parish share is calculated. This showed that the more we managed to raise the more we seemed to have to contribute. After some discussion it was agreed that putting any ‘spare’ money into the restricted account would possibly improve this situation but it was also noted that this account must not be for a named event/project or that would be all it could be used for.

7. Correspondences -
• An email to remind us that we need 2 Deanery Synod reps by the end of June
• An email from English Churches and Cathedrals to complete a sustainability review on line
• A thank you from the Children’s Society for £61.95
• A thank you was sent to Mr and Mrs McGuigan for their £40 donation
• A letter is to be sent to the village hall committee asking for a key to enable the use of the toilets in the hall if/when needed during any services
• Mike sent a thank you to Isobel and Len for hosting the cheese and wine function which raised £415. He also put a thank you into the Pelican

8. Reports -

Joan then presented the end of year accounts and answered any questions.
Thanks went to John for playing the organ, to Bill for all his hard work and to Roger Styring for auditing the accounts.
The thanks of the PCC are given to Joan for keeping our accounts so well.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) - all paper work is up to date and nothing else to report

Church Events – next meeting of the events team is on 6th Feb at 2pm. Next possible event will be a Mothering Sunday themed lunch on Saturday 25th March.

9. Vicar’s Slot
7th May will be Mike’s last service with us before retiring.
He is very conscious that we need another named person to be helping Bill and it was suggested that Mike announces this in church to see if there is any response.
A copy of the fees for weddings and funerals was circulated and discussed. The PCC saw no reason why they couldn’t stand.
The APCM will be Sunday March 19th. All reports need to be to the secretary in time to make copies to circulate prior.

10. Any other business
(i) The organ hasn’t been tuned for quite a while but it was decided to let John determine when such a service is required. We always have the electronic keyboard if necessary.
(ii) It was noted that there are probably some new members of the congregation who could be approached about gift aiding their donations, although it was pointed out that Janet is able to claim on any cash on the collection plate through the small gift aid scheme.

11. Date of next meeting –Wednesday 22nd March at 2pm at Moira’s.

12. Closing prayers.

The meeting ended at 8.40pm
