5. Matters arising from minutes

Richard Gascoigne’s visit finally went ahead but the dates proposed for his sermons weren’t convenient so arrangements have been made for him visit to church at a later date.

A letter wasn’t sent to the Parish Council to enquire about a further contribution towards grass cutting costs as their chairman had been in touch with John asking to discuss the issue. As a result of the discussion it would appear that there will be no additional funding this year but that they will hopefully look more favourably towards us next time.

The £150 grant for mission work which Mike had hoped might go towards the grass cutting fees can’t be used for this. However, he has applied for the money to go towards the cost of new Morning Prayer books to be used on a Wednesday morning.

Note that the Harvest Festival has been changed to Sunday 9th October and Mike will be putting a request in the Pelican for items for the People’s Kitchen. Tins of hot dogs and packets or tins of custard along with basic toiletries are what are most needed.

June pointed out that she wasn’t to be solely in charge of organising the Northumbrian Evening and was keen only to help.

6. Correspondences -

i) Open Synod Forum on Saturday 24th Sept at Northumberland Church of England Academy in Ashington
ii) Bishop Mark’s Consecration on Tuesday 18th October at 11am in York Minster
iii) John received a letter from Mike Hayward re the ecclesiastical completion to acknowledge his entry
iv) CCLI form to apply for a licence to reproduce music – we don’t need

7. Reports

• Warden –we have a mouse so beware of traps behind the organ. The microphones are still not working properly but Bill is waiting for someone to ring him about them. One gutter is in need of cleaning and taping up and Derek is going to help Bill with this. The book table is making approximately £10 a week and Moira was thanked for her suggestion to have it. To help Bill, John has kindly agreed to close church each day at a time which is most convenient.

Each PCC member was given a Church of England Confidential Declaration Form to complete and return to the Vicar.

Memory Tree will again be on display for the Sundays of Advent.
Midnight Mass was discussed and although numbers are falling it was decided to go ahead again this year. Mike is happy to perform the service and will inform the Pelican that it will be an 11.30pm start time.
June is happy to organise the Travelling Crib and hopefully the Christingle service.
Advent Four will be the Carol Service at the normal Sunday Morning service. Mulled wine and mince pies to be served after it.

8. Any other business

Coquet Churches Together are having a service at St Mark’s URC on Sunday 18th September.

Prisoner week of prayer is coming up shortly.

Village Hall AGM is 25th October so if there is anything the PCC want raised they are to let Revd June Barras know prior to then.

Revd June Barras is responsible for updating the intercessions and sick list and wonders if there are any ideas about how to revamp them.

Simon Little has approached John to ascertain whether the grass cutting contract will be going out to tender this year. It was decided that the PCC are quite happy to leave things as they are so long as there isn’t an increase in cost.

Note is to be made of the work Flora and Derek have done in the borders outside church. They have now cleared up to the church wall.

9. Date of next meeting – arranged 23rd November 2016 at 2pm

10. Closing prayers. The meeting closed at 8.45pm
