PCC MINUTES  12th November 2014


Minutes of Parochial Church Council Meeting on 12th November, 2014- at the home of Moira Peden

Present: Revd Mike Dent, Moira Peden, John Davison, June Davison, Caron Torbohm, Joan Davison, Derek Steele, Barbara Lamb, Bill Rowntree, Joyce Aynsley, Janet and Keith Bell.

01. Welcome by Chair Revd Mike Dent and a thank you to Moira for her continued hospitality.

02. Opening Prayers led by Revd Mike Dent.

03. Apologies: Pat Hawkins

04. Minutes of the last meeting: Caron highlighted that she had not put Tracey’s surname correctly as Shawn and that a letter had been sent to the Parish Council not the PCC.

05. Matters arising:
• John Davison highlighted from the last minutes that Pat Hawkins did not appear under 03. Apologies.
• John Davison commented on the entry that Mike would write a letter re: Parish Share, nothing has happened as yet. Mike says St Lawrence, Warkworth have offered to support St John The Divine.
• John Davison queried a joint benefice parish share.
• 07. Reports, John Davison highlighted that the date of the Christmas Fair had changed to 8/11/14.
• John Davison commented that Tracey’s surname should be Clerkin-Shone.
• War Memorial Trust- John Davison has received information emailed originally to Ken Denholm. The letter received is a pre-application plan, John Davison shared the contents of the letter with PCC members present. Discussion took place among PCC members about the War Memorial as donations to the fund for the Lych gate have already been received.
• John Davison expressed his thoughts on the Lych Gate, due to the previous structural reports in 2011, the work of Ken and Margaret Denholm and commemoration of WW1 in 2018 we have 4 years to save up funds towards the restoration of the Lych Gate. The church funds have currently £1500 in donations towards the work.
• John Davison queried if the PCC would agree to complete the structural work advised in the Quinquennial Report of 2011.
• It was agreed by the PCC that Joan Davison would bank the donations already received.
• John Davison if agreed by the PCC will look at the grant from the War Memorial Fund and the documentation, examine the process and it may be necessary to do the work advised by the Quinquennial Report of 2011.
• Grass cutting- there has currently been no response from the Parish Council.
• John Davison wanted the last minutes to identify that the commemoration kneelers had been done by Barbara Lamb and June Barras, not June Davison as there had been some confusion in the village community.

06. Correspondence:
• Letter of thanks received by the Treasurer, Joan Davison for donations raised for the Syria Appeal.

07. Reports:
• Churchwardens- nothing to report.
• Treasurer-
Income- 3 Christenings, total of £286.72 in plate collections. Christmas Fair net profit- £905.11.
Expenditure- Syria/ Middle East Appeal- £80/ Pansy Plants- £60/ Insurance- Sept- £541.57/ Oct- £541.57- now paid up for 2014. Quota left to pay- £3000.
• Events Group- Janet Bell reported that the last two events have been very successful due to the help received. The next two events will be the Cribs in Church and cheese and wine at Inglenook. John Davison thanked the Event’s Group on behalf of the PCC for the successful Christmas Fair.
• Mike mentioned that a Memory Christmas Tree will be placed in church during the festive period.
• Cheese and wine event at Inglenook, donations will be for the church and school.
• Christmas card competition- Mike has already written to both schools.
• School Governor- nothing to report.

08. Vicars Slot: Mike asked PCC members to give some thought towards the New Year about the Local Ministry Development Group, a sub group of the PCC to consider a Mission Statement and a Ministerial Developmental Review. The PCC need to consider a mission action plan for the next 3-5 years to consider 2-3 areas for consideration, change and improvement. Mike mentioned usage of the Sunday school area, different types of services in church. The idea is to do small things well.

09. Any other business:
• Carol Service will be after the Cribs in Church at 4.30 pm on 13th December, 2014.
• Midnight Service- John Davison requested that the sound system be used for the service.
• Reading List was discussed.
