For six years I wrote a short history
article in the monthly parish magazine,
The Pelican. One of the articles is
shown in the column opposite.

If anyone has any old photographs or
parish information which they would like
recorded (for present and future
generations to share) then please get in
touch with me.

ACKLINGTON HISTORY SLOT
This old photograph of an Acklington cricket team (which
I included in last month’s history slot) created much
interest and many responses. Thank you to those folk who
contacted me with the year of the photograph (1947) and
the names of the members, which I now know are as
Back Row (Left to Right)
George Fawcus, Billy Chapman, Les Chrisp, Billy Thompson,
Percy Geggie, Charlie Oakley, Stephen Spowart, Jack
Front Row (Left to Right)
Colin Fawcus, Harry Humble, Pat Young, Charlie Davison,
Willie Patten, Mat Young, Willie Miller.
Apparently Acklington ran a very active and successful
cricket club for many years until the club finally
folded in December 1968. Below is a copy of the fixtures
for May 1964 and also another old photograph from the
cricket album – this time showing a group of supporting
women folk and children. Perhaps once again Pelican
readers can kindly supply me with the names?

Since the above article was printed,
Colin Fawcus has telephoned me to say that the lady
sitting in the centre is his grandmother Mary Fawcus
(now deceased) and the little boy sitting on her left is
actually his father George Fawcus.
